Jana Roberto REGISTERED PSYCHOLOGIST

I have always had a passion of working with and supporting children and their families. I have extensive experience in both the assessment and treatment of infant, preschool, and school-aged children. One of my areas of specialization is working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and in supporting families through their journey. Most of my private practice is focused on the diagnosis of ASD, however I really enjoy having a mix of both assessment and treatment in my private practice role. Read more

I have always had a passion of working with and supporting children and their families. I found a specific interest in psychology and psychological assessment near the end of my undergraduate degree. Following my undergraduate degree, I worked as a psychometrist in a private practice, administering assessments to children and adults who may have experienced mild brain injury. While working in this practice, I became interested in continuing to grow professionally, and enrolled in a Masters of Counselling program to begin my path to becoming a psychologist. At the same time, I embarked on a new career opportunity as a psychometrist in the Autism Research Centre at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. In this position, I developed a specific interest in working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and in supporting families through their journey. I gained extensive experience in working with infant, preschool, and school-aged children. I continued to work in this capacity throughout my Masters experience and into my career as a Psychologist.

While much of my work experience has centered on assessment, I have also gained experience in counselling and treatment through education and work opportunities. During my Masters, I gained practical work experience at CASA as a Mental Health Therapist in Infant and Preschool Services. This position expanded my knowledge of mental health in infant and preschool aged children. Also, while on my journey to becoming a psychologist, I volunteered at the YWCA, providing trauma-informed counselling to women and children, and working from solution-focused, cognitive-behavioural, and attachment theoretical perspectives.

Currently, I work as a Psychologist in Pediatrics at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital in preschool and school aged diagnostic clinics and outpatient treatment services. I really enjoy having a mix of both assessment and treatment in my current role. I also maintain private practice work, focusing mainly on ASD assessment.
Personally, I am married and have two girls who keep my husband and I busy! As a family, we like to get together with extended family for dinners on the weekends and enjoy the time that we have together. We recently re-discovered our interest in camping and are looking forward to building memories camping as a family in the years to come.
