Shawn Reynolds, Ph.D., Registered Psychologist
Experience and Training
I have been a psychologist for over 15 years, practicing in Alberta and Texas. My undergraduate work was completed at Texas Christian University. I have a master’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley, and completed master’s and doctoral training in Clinical Psychology from the University of British Columbia.
I currently work at the Glenrose in a Pediatric Team Lead position, and also provide group treatment with adults in the areas of anxiety, mood and frustration. I maintain a small private practice in addition to this work. I keep this practice small, to ensure quick and personal responses to clients. I enjoy the range of work I get in both settings, and see this as a way to meet my calling in my work.
I work with parents of school-aged students to help them learn how to help their children achieve to their full potential in school. I do this through testing in the following areas:
- Cognitive (IQ) skills
- Academic achievement
- Emotional development
- Behavioural challenges
- Attentional difficulties
One-on-one conversation with the parent, child, and teacher (when desired) is a critical part of my assessment. This gives me an understanding from a range of perspectives about the child’s needs. I offer testing in my office, as well as directly within schools. Observation in the classroom is also available when necessary.
I use evidence-based, cognitive-behavioural approaches in working with clients, and can offer a Christian perspective when requested. Clients may include those needing help in the areas of:
- Obsessive-compulsive difficulties for children and adults
- Parenting stress
- Adult mood/anxiety challenges
I have extensive experience in workshops and presentations, providing 20 or more per year in the areas of Autism education, parenting of vulnerable children, behavioural and learning challenges in school, and psychoeducational assessment.
I am a psychologist in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists (#2448), Canadian Psychological Association, Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology, and American Psychological Association.
I am married with two girls. I have learned more about parenting from my children than in my professional training. I am from Texas originally but married an Edmonton girl. I have now proudly endured over 10 Alberta winters. I’m an active runner, though I’m quite slow and believe that this challenge gives me some resilience as I work with people with challenges in other areas!
